I [Emily] can’t tell you how many people have asked us that question lately. It’s a hard question to answer with our mixture of emotions and so much change happening, so I apologize for all of you who have received a scattered answer. 🙂 At the same time, we’re deeply grateful to be surrounded by people who 1) know to ask such a question 2) really care about the answer.
I have two favorite ways of hearing about how people are doing – pictures (hence why I love Instagram!) and hearing stories. So I thought I’d tell you some recent stories with pictures to fill you all in on how we’re doing.
Allergy season is in full swing here in Waco…and it has hit the Ambergs hard! I guess this might not seem like a big thing, but it’s been rather debilitating for us over the past few weeks. We’ve used a lot of tissues, taken a lot of sudaphed and prayed a lot of our allergies to take a breather. 🙂 I’m happy to say sickness has finally left the Amberg household…for now! 🙂
This couple is changing our lives. They have decided to partner with us in multiple ways as we move to India – our favorite way is in the form of pastoral covering. We get the privilege of talking with them on a monthly basis to share about how we’re doing and receiving loads of encouragement. This transition season has felt much like a roller coaster ride with our emotions – thrilled about moving while sad about leaving our home. They’ve committed to not being daunted by the ride and joining us for the long haul.
We went back to the place we met – Antioch’s Day Discipleship School – and got to teach about conflict. It was a BLAST! This class is so receptive and have a great hunger to learn more about Jesus and being Jesus to others. We have found that we LOVE teaching together…which is a relief since most of what we do lately is together. 🙂
Raising support is where most of our time is spent these days. As of last night we are at 71% monthly funded and 33% funded for our start-up costs!
I say raising support takes up most of our time, but it also takes up a lot of our heart space too. We took a risk quitting our jobs and diving head first into raising support this past fall…and we haven’t looked back. Any time I get nervous about our finances there’s a specific verse from the Psalms that comes to mind – “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” (Psalm 33:9) He spoke for us to go to India, so it will come to be. He commanded (more like invited…but the word still works because He’s King) us to raise support, and we will stand firm on His promise that all will come in. He’s a faithful King. I’ve never trusted Him more.

Yes…we wrapped a bicycle in aluminum foil. 🙂 Right now Adam and I are working with Antioch to produce a series of videos for the children’s department. Adam wrote scripts, is helping co-direct some of the shoots and plays the bad guy. I’m helping administrate this crazy endeavor. Wrapping a bike in aluminum foil seems common in the face of the other things we’ve done for these videos! 🙂
In #4days Adam and I will be boarding a plane to fly to Maryland to see the pretty lady above and her husband. Agnes and I have been friends for 10 years. She’s an incredible friend. She’s been a rock for me during difficult times, she passionately loves life, and she’s a blast to be with! We met in Romania on a Teen Mania mission trip…the same trip where I heard Jesus invite me to India. I can’t wait to finally be with her and get a whole week in Maryland with her and Matt! (And to take Adam to Washington DC!)
This in-between season has been incredibly fruitful for our marriage. Earlier I said that I’ve never trusted Jesus more. The same is true of my trust for Adam. He is a confident leader and is leading our family with incredible patience and creativity. Our days together are filled with laughter, dreaming and watching the faithfulness of God knit us together and India in our hearts. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better husband to lead me to the nations!
So there you have it – how the Ambergs are doing right now. Thank you for reading through all the fun, and sometimes not so fun, things happening in our lives lately. We love each of you very much!
